Well hello everyone, welcome to my CPA journey - hopefully I'll have some of you to share this with along the ride =)
So I just graduated with my bachelors degree last year, and since I did my education in India, I was a little skeptical about meeting the course requirements. My evaluations took a lot of time and all the while I was praying I would get in because I was so anxious and eager to get started with it. All my life (no I'm not old, I'm just 21 years of age), I've never been a book person, whether it's been school books or novels. Basically, I've never really had the patience to sit in one place and read pages and pages at a stretch. So this is my first big CPA challenge considering there is a hell lot of material to cover.
I'm using the Becker CPA Review, with live instruction classes, and I have a full time job in Deloitte (which is a big four if any of you are not aware - which means we get overworked and underpaid, lol). I've just been two months into the live instruction, we started with FAR, now we're into AUD, and I gotta say, I feel a bit saturated with the classes already. It's weekend classes only (4 hours per lecture), but it's moving so fast that it's hard to actually keep up to the pace of the class. I try to put in two hours of studying on the weekdays (after work), and then capitalize on the weekends, but yet, the material seems so overwhelming that I'm not even sure if I'm retaining any of the information in my brain.
Since this is just my first post, I'd like to conclude by listing out a few things I've learned so far in the first two months of my CPA journey -
- Becker CPA Review may be pricey, but it is indeed worth the money, if you spend adequate time on it.
- This course is more challenging than I thought - it's gonna take much more effort and sacrifices by me if I wanna successfully pass this exam.
- Don't purchase the Flashcards offered by Becker - make your own, it helps you learn a lot more. And make sure you have them with you at ALL times.
- FAR has quite successfully lived up to its reputation of being the toughest section of all four.
- Practice makes perfect - the more you practice, the better your scores. It doesn't get simpler than this.
- Lastly, the only key to nailing the CPA is - Eat CPA, Breathe CPA, Talk CPA, etc. Basically, just Live CPA. Period.
That's all for now, see ya'll around, "scholars"!
